The redevelopment of land on Parkside Drive (Shepparton), which will become the home of the new North Shepparton Community Hub, is starting to take shape with the arrival of portable buildings from the Commonwealth Games Village.
The portables will be incorporated into the overall project to create a modern, multifunctional central hub.
Project supervisor Adrian Carrafa of Moretto Building Pty. Ltd. said, “We’re about to start refurbishing the portables and prepare the framing ready for roofing”. Adrian said the project is on target and, weather permitting, should be complete by the due date in March next year.
The hub will be the permanent new home of the North Shepparton Community & Learning Centre.
CEO Debbie Orlandi said, “It will put all of our programs into the one area. At present we operate our services from six different locations in Shepparton”.
The North Shepparton Community & Learning Centre has been in its present Olympic Avenue location since 1984 and has since outgrown the building.
“We’re busting at the seams at the moment. The hub will give us more space than the present three bedroom house,” Miss Orlandi said.
Local, State and Federal Governments have provided more then $3 million in funding for the development which, when completed, will offer meeting rooms and space for health services.
Neighbourhood Renewal Coordinator Amanda Tingay said, “Council saw an opportunity to make use of the portables when they became available. This will be an additional asset for council and the community. The North Shepparton Community Hub is another significant project developed by Greater Shepparton City Council utilising the services of Vincent Chrisp Adams and Moretto Building in the construction of a high quality facility”.
The North Shepparton Community Hub is the latest project in the redevelopment of Parkside Estate. More than 80 properties have been demolished, some roadways have been restructured and new housing developments started as part of the State Government’s $28 million Neighbourhood Renewal project.
